About CrowdHydrology
CrowdHydrology is an experiment currently being run by Dr. Chris Lowry at the University at Buffalo Department of Geology and Dr. Mike Fienen at the U.S. Geological Survey. The goal of CrowdHydrology is to develop innovative methods of collecting spatially-distributed hydrologic data.
We’ll be the first to admit that we’re not the first group to try to ‘crowdsource’ scientific data using cell phones. The basic idea for CrowdHydrology was based on a network developed for identifying road kill in California.
The data collected is accessible, free-of-charge, to all schools, universities, resource management agencies, and watershed organizations. If you find the data helpful, please contact us and let us know.
Sincerely,
Dr. Chris Lowry
